Augusta's Piedmont clay swells when wet and shrinks when dry - every season. That movement stresses foundations year-round, which is why stair-step cracks in brick are so common here. Managing drainage around the foundation is the single best thing you can do to slow the damage.
Spring and fall are ideal - mortar cures best between 50 and 85 degrees. Augusta summers are hot enough to dry mortar too fast and cause premature cracking. If you have active damage, do not wait for cooler weather; address it before the next wet season makes it worse.
